No. 01 — Home

Your place on the internet.

I’m Tom Barlow, an independent designer. I make distinctive, practical websites for small businesses. I handle the technical complications, and you get a finished website you can call your own.

No. 02 — About

A little about the operation.

I like getting to know what makes a business different and figuring out how to translate that into a website that feels like it belongs to them.

I’m Tom Barlow. My background is a mix of hospitality, healthcare and IT, but more recently I’ve found myself spending a lot of time designing and building websites.

I started by making websites for small businesses that I thought could use one, often before I’d even spoken to the owners. What began as a way to put my technical skills to use turned into something I genuinely enjoy doing.

I handle the design and the technical side, so you don’t have to figure out how to build or manage a website yourself. I try to keep things straightforward. Once the website is finished, it’s yours.

No. 03 — Process

From an idea to a website.

    The conversation

We talk about the business, what the website needs to accomplish, and any preferences for its appearance or functionality. If I’ve already made a concept, we can start by looking at that together.

We also discuss pricing, domain names, and any materials needed for the website.

  2. Fig. 2

    The design

I build a working version of the website and share it for review. We go over the layout, wording, photographs, and functionality, then make the agreed-upon revisions.

You get to see the actual website rather than trying to imagine it from a description.

    The handoff

Once everything is approved, I help connect the domain, publish the website, and transfer the agreed-upon ownership and access to you.

I explain the basics of how everything works and remain available for future updates if needed.
